Ziguinchor police arrested a Nigerian national, known as Nelly, suspected of expressing the intention of voluntarily transmitting HIV to her clients.
The alert was given on October 30, when a source gave investigators screenshots of discussions suggesting that the young woman planned to have unprotected intercourse in order to “infect as many Senegalese as possible,” reports Libération.
The police located and arrested the suspect in a bar she frequented regularly. During her hearing, Nelly admitted to being HIV-positive and claimed to have lived with the disease since birth. She said she had been practicing prostitution for several years, especially in Gambia before her arrival in Ziguinchor between February and March 2025. She presented her identity documents and medical follow-up booklet to the investigators.
Confronted with the messages accusing her of wanting to voluntarily transmit the virus, she denied the facts, assuring that she still uses condoms with her customers. A requisition from the Ziguinchor hospital confirmed that she is being followed and under treatment at the Reference Center for Sexually Transmitted Infections.

L’alerte a été donnée le 30 octobre, lorsqu’une source a remis aux enquêteurs des captures d’écran de discussions laissant entendre que la jeune femme prévoyait d’avoir des rapports non protégés afin « d’infecter le maximum de Sénégalais », rapporte Libération.
Les policiers ont localisé et interpellé la suspecte dans un bar qu’elle fréquentait régulièrement. Lors de son audition, Nelly a reconnu être séropositive et a affirmé vivre avec la maladie depuis sa naissance. Elle a précisé exercer la prostitution depuis plusieurs années, notamment en Gambie avant son arrivée à Ziguinchor entre février et mars 2025. Elle a présenté aux enquêteurs ses documents d’identité ainsi que son carnet de suivi médical.
Confrontée aux messages l’accusant de vouloir transmettre volontairement le virus, elle a nié les faits, assurant qu’elle utilise toujours des préservatifs avec ses clients. Une réquisition auprès de l’hôpital de Ziguinchor a confirmé qu’elle est bien suivie et sous traitement au Centre de référence des infections sexuellement transmissibles.
