Two criminal cases on the fact of HIV transmission have been filed in Lida of Grodno region. The court is expecting hearings against a man and a young woman. The first one lived with a woman for several years and did not disclose his diagnosis to her. When she tested for HIV, she learned of her positive status.

In the second case, a young woman had sex with a man after they had drinks together. She warned her lover that she had HIV, but inflamed by alcohol and passion the information fell on deaf ears.

Now an expert has been appointed, who should determine who has infected the victims [the direction of alleged HIV transmission]. According to the Press Service of the Hrodna regional police, it is possible, as they suggest HIV has specific strains. If their guilt is proven, the man and the woman can get from 5 to 13 years behind the bars.
