I learned about my HIV status in Azerbaijan during a routine check-up in November 2023.
I am a non-resident and have not applied for a residence permit here, and now there is no point in that with my status. I was not deported or banned from entering, and I extended my stay here by exiting/entering the country.
The healthcare personnel of the AIDS center at first assured me that I would receive the treatment, but after learning that I did not have a residence permit, they said that I had to go back to [my home country] to get the treatment there. Still, I managed to get a three-month medication from them and went through general tests free of charge. However, they were reluctant to provide this help (I had to find various contacts and plead with them to help me). I even offered payment, but they said there was no such option and pharmacies do not sell ART drugs. I am still residing in Azerbaijan. I travel regularly to [my home country] to purchase my medication and go through routine check-ups for people with HIV (although, at first, I was afraid of going back).
