The Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria confirmed the sentence of a nurse of a private sanatorium in Nalchik, convicted of infecting more than 70 patients with hepatitis C and HIV. This was reported to RIA Novosti in the joint press service of the judicial system of the CBD.

The Court of Appeal did not change the decision of the Nalchik City Court, leaving the sentence without adjustments. Earlier, she was obliged to pay compensation to the three victims in the amount of 9 million rubles for the moral damage caused. The woman is also prohibited from engaging in medical activities related to the provision of services to the population for three years.

Recall that in December last year in Kabardino-Balkaria, a nurse of a private sanatorium in Nalchik was sentenced to four years in prison for negligence, which led to mass infection of HIV and hepatitis C patients. As a result, 71 patients who were diagnosed with acute hepatitis C were injured, and five more people were diagnosed with HIV infection. The convict tried to challenge the decision of the Nalchik City Court and filed an appeal, but the details of her arguments are not given.

An appeal against the verdict was filed by a nurse at a private sanatorium in Nalchik, who was sentenced to four years in prison for infecting more than 70 people with hepatitis C and HIV.

As reported by the “Caucasian Knot,” the medical staff and management of a private sanatorium in Nalchik were accused of infecting five people with HIV and 71 patients with hepatitis C. The case was filed in court in March, and the victims told the “Caucasian Knot” that the nurse did not open disposable syringes in front of the patients. On December 15, the court sentenced the nurse to four years in prison, while her superiors—the sanatorium’s general director and doctor—escaped punishment. Later, the court partially upheld the claims of three HIV-infected individuals, who are to receive 9 million rubles in compensation. On December 19, those infected with hepatitis at the sanatorium announced filing lawsuits for compensation for moral and material damages.

Charges of violating sanitary regulations (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Russian Criminal Code) were brought against Ruslan Ozrokov, General Director of Medis Sanatorium LLC, Mukhadin Uzdenov, Head of the Neurology Department, and Marianna Aloyeva, a nurse. The latter was also charged with transmitting HIV (Part 4 of Article 122 of the Russian Criminal Code).
