KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) — According to court documents, a Knoxville man was arrested on charges of criminal HIV exposure.

X was allegedly intimate with his partner five times before disclosing that he is HIV positive, said a report.

X had allegedly been in a relationship with the unidentified person for a month.

According to the CDC, there are treatment options for HIV positive individuals that can make the sexual transmission of the virus extremely unlikely.

Medication known as antiretroviral therapy (ART) can reduce the amount of HIV virus in the blood to undetectable levels and stop the symptoms of the virus from progressing.

It is unknown if X was being treated with ART at the time of his arrest.
