A 42-year-old man from Brampton, Ontario has been charged with aggravated sexual assault after a 26 year-old man claimed he did not disclose his HIV status before they had sex.

The story is from the National Post, but the case is also being covered by local media in Ontario primarily because the police have issued a statement that serves as both a public health warning and a ‘fishing expedition’ for more complainants.

Investigators say they believe [the man] has been aware of his HIV-positive status for approximately seven years. Police further say he has had intimate contact with other adults and failed to disclose his status to them.Police are issuing a public safety advisory and appealing for others to come forward. They urge anyone who has had intimate contact with [the man] to call them immediately, and to seek medical attention.

At least he wasn’t charged with attempted murder. The man will next appear in court on December 21.
