A nurse at a sanatorium in Nalchik appealed her conviction for infecting patients
An appeal against the verdict was filed by a nurse at a private sanatorium in Nalchik, who was sentenced to four years in prison for infecting more than 70 people with hepatitis C and HIV.
As reported by the “Caucasian Knot,” the medical staff and management of a private sanatorium in Nalchik were accused of infecting five people with HIV and 71 patients with hepatitis C. The case was filed in court in March, and the victims told the “Caucasian Knot” that the nurse did not open disposable syringes in front of the patients. On December 15, the court sentenced the nurse to four years in prison, while her superiors—the sanatorium’s general director and doctor—escaped punishment. Later, the court partially upheld the claims of three HIV-infected individuals, who are to receive 9 million rubles in compensation. On December 19, those infected with hepatitis at the sanatorium announced filing lawsuits for compensation for moral and material damages.
Charges of violating sanitary regulations (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Russian Criminal Code) were brought against Ruslan Ozrokov, General Director of Medis Sanatorium LLC, Mukhadin Uzdenov, Head of the Neurology Department, and Marianna Aloyeva, a nurse. The latter was also charged with transmitting HIV (Part 4 of Article 122 of the Russian Criminal Code).
