In Nyagan (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug), investigators opened a criminal case on the case of deliberate HIV infection. This was reported by the press service of the Russian MIA Administration for the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

A 39-year-old resident of Nyagan turned to the local police department with a complaint against a 30-year-old local resident that she had deliberately infected him with HIV. He explained that he had been getting sick a lot lately. He took a blood test and the result was HIV-positive. As he had been dating the same girl for the past two years, he suspected her of being the source of the infection.

The police found out the whereabouts of the applicant’s former lover. It turned out that she had been registered as HIV-positive since 2015 and had been warned of her responsibility around the deliberate transmission of an incurable disease, but she had not informed her partner of her illness.

A criminal case has been initiated under article 122, part 2, of the Criminal Code (“Infection of another person with HIV by a person who knew they had the disease”). The article provides for a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment.
