A Newton man has been charged with a crime after he told police he had possibly infected a woman with Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or HIV.

Court records show 18-year-old N.X is charged with criminal transmission of infectious disease to another.

In late July, X contacted Newton police saying he was worried he had transmitted the disease to a woman he had unprotected sex with several times, according to court documents. Police said he signed a voluntary written statement admitting to it.

Arrest records show he later told the woman of his infection and the woman corroborated this.

The woman told police she wanted to press charges and requested a no contact order as well.
